Position Summary:


We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Elementary Music Assistant level II, with a specific focus on the ELOP/Music Immersion Experience (MIE) Program at Roosevelt Elementary School. This part-time position will provide support, instruction and supervision within our after school MIE program with a primary emphasis on developing and nurturing students' musical skills. The Elementary Music Assistant II will work closely in collaboration with the members of the MIE instructional staff, and work under the guidance of the MIE Site Coordinator, Director of ELOP, and the Visual and Performing Arts Program Administrator for San Gabriel Unified. They will instruct students to strengthen their abilities, and fostering a love for music and overall learning.

 

Roosevelt Elementary School seeks an enthusiastic Elementary Music Assistant II to support the ELOP/Music Immersion Experience (MIE) Program. This part-time role involves providing instruction, supervision, and support in the after-school MIE program, focusing on developing students’ musical skills and fostering a love of music. The assistant will collaborate with MIE staff and work under the guidance of the MIE Site Coordinator, ELOP Director, and VAPA Program Administrator, supporting students' technical skills, musicality, and appreciation for music. 

REPORTS TO AND EVALUATED BY: Director of ELOP and/or VAPA Program Administrator, with input from the MIE site coordinator


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors student growth and development through daily group and individual instruction in music.
  • Works in collaboration with other team members, under the guidance of MIE site coordinator, and district
    administrators to plan state standards aligned, high quality music instruction.
  • Assist in organizing and setting up rehearsals, concerts, and performances, attending performances on
    campus and off.
  • Support students in developing their musical skills, including proper technique, intonation, rhythm, and
    musical interpretation.
  • Becomes educated as to the history and mission of the MIE program and collaborates with all school staff
    and district personnel to assist in maintaining program goals.
  • Attends professional development as provided.
  • Assists with after class or snack time supervision in rotation, as necessary to ensure student safety.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to students during rehearsals and individual practice sessions, helping them
    improve their playing abilities and musicality.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of instruments, equipment, and supplies, providing technical assistance
    when necessary.
  • Assist in the coordination of auditions, competitions, and special activities related to the groups taught.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student collaboration, growth,
    and appreciation for music.
  • Collaborate with the Roosevelt staff and uphold schoolwide PBIS policies, and classroom management
    protocols/strategies..
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum AA degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in playing an musical instrument (Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, Percussion) and a solid
    understanding of ensemble techniques and repertoire.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) elementary music education pedagogy and current teaching methods
    (eg. Orff, Kodaly, Suzuki, Dalcroze).
  • Understands basic concepts of child growth and development, and possesses a genuine liking of children. 
  • A passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering musical growth, creativity, and personal development in students.
  • Prior experience working with students in an educational or instructional setting is preferred.
