BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
As part of an elementary teaching assignment, teaches one or more classes in the field of art to students in grades TK-6, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches basic, age appropriate and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, color theory, and/or three-dimensional art to elementary students.
- Incorporate a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students with varying levels of ability.
- Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or\ abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
- Evaluates each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
- Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participate in faculty committees and professional development activities.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual student’s progress.
- Identifies students’ needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level. May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Credential: Appropriate California Teaching Credential
- Education: Bachelor’s degree

- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
- TB Clearance
