BRIEF DESCRIPTION:


As part of an elementary teaching assignment, teaches one or more classes in the field of art to students in grades TK-6, and assists in other school programs as assigned.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teaches basic, age appropriate and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, color theory, and/or three-dimensional art to elementary students.
  2. Incorporate a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students with varying levels of ability.
  3. Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  4. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
  6. Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  7. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  8. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or\ abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
  9. Evaluates each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
  10. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
  11. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
  12. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  13. Participate in faculty committees and professional development activities.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual student’s progress.
  2. Identifies students’ needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  3. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level. May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.
  4. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  5. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
  6. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.

 

SUPERVISOR:


Under the immediate supervision of the site level administrator


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Credential: Appropriate California Teaching Credential
  2. Education: Bachelor’s degree


CERTIFICATES AND LICENCES:


Valid Driver’s License & Evidence of Insurability


CLEARANCES:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • TB Clearance

Candidates must hold or qualify for a Single Subject Art Credential
